First Impressions – Cannes Lions 2009

Well less than 24 hours after entertaining and being entertained by Will Carling post the Microsoft Search Summit – more on that at a later date – I’m in The Palais Stephanie in Cannes having had another of the maddest 24 hours of my career!

First impressions are that this festival is full on. There are people from all over the world here to learn, be wowed and experience some of the most cutting edge advertising on the planet- a lot of which is now digital!

We arrived last night and sped to Marco Polo’s a restaurant on the beach, a bit beyond the town, for a very cool and laid back dinner with the whole Microsoft Advertising Team that’s out here.

The up bright and early meeting the film crew that will help us interview a raft of folks from Microsoft execs to people on the street finding out what their expectations are of Cannes and what they’re looking forward to from the week.

Our cyber lounge at the conference centre is pretty cool! Lots of PCs and internet access and this Microsoft Surface table I spotted with two South Americans firmly ensconced next to with their Apple Macs wide open!

They look happy don’t they!

Jenny and I have started filming with the Media Brands crew and I think we’ve found our presenting feet…..well time will tell!

Now I’m off to the land of nod to dream up some questions to ask Biz Stone!

Susan Boyle Proves Britain’s Got Talent

I’d heard about this over the weekend via Twitter while I was in the US.

Only got around to watching it at 4.30 this morning through a jet-lagged haze!

Has to be one of the most amazing performances ever on one of these “talent” shows.

I must have heard that song sung a 1000 times while at auditions in my acting days.

None of them came anywhere near to topping that!

I’m betting she’ll be Number 1 this Christmas!

Microsoft Advertising Video – Navigating Digital

When I’m out and about and people ask me what I do, I say I talk about Microsoft Advertising.

Having people understand we’re so much more than just “software & computers” and that we’re well placed at the cutting edge of digital marketing has been a challenge, but recent announcements like the Microsoft Media Network have shown people that, when it comes to advertising, we’re not just about MSN.

This new video says tells the brand story very nicely indeed!

Let me know what you think…..

Tomorrow – Friday 27th February – on the MSN.co.uk homepage, the world’s largest eyebrow dance-off will commence.

JiveBrow09 will be hosted by MSN and www.aglassandahalffullproductions.com giving you the chance to have your eyebrows “plucked” from obscurity via your webcam, and have your high-brow facial moves displayed to millions online!

Some very funky technology will be in play here including  “B-Brow”, the world’s first “eyebrowser” and a re-edit of the TV ad where the kids only dance when you’re not looking.

This is certainly an event not to miss and is sure to raise a few……erm………eyebrows!

🙂
