Thanks For Sponsoring My Half Marathon for NACOA

The thighs are aching, the knees are creaking and I can’t stop eating, but at least I finished in one peice!

Thanks to everyone who sponsored me to run the Human Race 1/2 marathon around Dorney Lake yesterday.

I was most touched by your generosity towards my chosen charity – National Association for Children of Alcoholics

I was even more touched by the stories many of you told of how you’d wished a charity like that had been around when you were growing up.

£590 so far is then doubled to nearly £1200!

Not too late to help either: http://www.justgiving.com/melcarson2

As you can tell from the video, my wife Ashley was on hand for some fantastically enthusiastic support, and you can see from my bewildered face at the end that I never in a million years thought I was going to break 2 hrs 30 mins.

So satisfactory job all around.

Now for a bit of a rest and a think about my next challenge!

Any ideas?

Just back from holiday having missed this, so just taken a peek.

So pleased Danny got to finally quiz Steve B and, as someone who’s been at Microsoft for 5 years talking about search and adCenter, so pleased to see our CEO up there so eloquently explaining the problems we have with search, and what Bing is setting out to achieve in solving those conundrums.

MSN Video Player Interview

MSN Video Player

Last week, to coincide with the launch of the rather swanky MSN Video Player in the UK, I interviewed Ashley Highfield who heads up our Consumer & Online division here in the UK.

Just seen the new Robin Hood movie trailer in HD!

This is really a very cool development for the MSN UK, built on the back of Ashley’s experience at the BBC with the iPlayer, now you can watch full time TV shows with no sign up or login and all in the beauty of Silverlight.

Not going to get much work done today now are you?

Games Advertising – ESPN & Premiership Football

Wrote a post on in-game advertising earlier on the work blog, but thought it’d be cool to share here too.

I’m not a huge soccer fan, but this execution of advertising is, as my brother-in-law Chasen would say, “pretty righteous!”

Essentially the technology targets particular ESPN coverage information to what ever teams are playing in the game.

So if you’ve chosen Portsmouth as your team, the ads that come up will be promoting the next match they’re playing that’s going to be on ESPN.

Simple but effective!

Dell’s Richard Binhammer on Social Media

Richard, a lovely man who I met at a Dell Social Media Huddle organised by the equally lovely Kerry Bridge, on how Dell use Social Media to listen, learn and engage with their customers.

He also talks about how they have managed to generate $6m from Twitter!
